2019 Bruce Guthro Songwriters’ Circle Fox Harb’r Performers
Legendary Rock and Blues Performer Matt Minglewood
With a professional career that spans over 55 years and the energy of musicians half his age, Matt Minglewood has played for the troops in Afghanistan, recorded at Jimi Hendrix Electric Lady studios and accumulated gold records and awards. He’s had major hits like “Can’t You See,” and just released his latest album in 2017. Through it all, Matt’s music and song writing have showcased the natural universality one only heard from a born storyteller. In a climate ripe with ever-changing musical styles, he has mastered many, blending country, blues, folk, roots and rock, while always remaining true to his own artistic character. www.mattminglewood.com
Singer, Songwriter, Actor Heather Rankin
Heather Rankin is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and actor. She is best known as a member of the platinum, multi-selling, iconic musical group the Rankin Family. Heather, the youngest member of the Rankin Family, released her debut solo album “A Fine Line” in 2016, and was nominated for a Juno Award (Adult contemporary Album of the Year) and two East Coast Music Awards for Folk Recording of the Year, and Fans Choice Video of the Year for We Walk As One. Rankin’s voice has been shaped by the Gaelic traditions of her home, and by the years she spent singing the songs of her brothers and sisters, but her voice is set free by her new work, and often euphorically so, in a way previously unheard. She continues to forge her own musical legacy with her poetic, intimate original songs, and an eclectic mix of others. www.heatherrankin.ca
Singer, Songwriter, Instrumentalist Lennie Gallant
Lennie Gallant, CM is a Canadian singer-songwriter and instrumentalist from Prince Edward Island. His music crosses into the folk rock and country music genres, while celebrating the musical heritage of his home province. He has been presented with many awards for his performances and songwriting. Gallant has released twelve albums (10 in English and 2 in French) of original songs which have won him a host of awards and nominations from the JUNOs, Les Prix Eloizes, and 18 East Coast Music Awards, including 2017 ECMA Entertainer of the Year. His double CD of the 22 songs from his multimedia hit production, Searching for Abegweit, which ran for 140 shows, also won him an ECMA. He was named Canadian Folk Artist of The Year for 2016 and his song Peter’s Dream was voted one of the Top Ten East Coast Songs of All Time.
Sons of Maxwell and “United Breaks Guitars” Star Dave Carroll
Dave Carroll began his musical career in university, when he started a singing duo with his brother Don. And he hasn’t stopped since. The Don & Dave Show soon evolved into the ECMA award-winning band Sons of Maxwell (SOM), a tribute to their father Max. Then, in 2009, a travelling musician’s customer service nightmare catapulted Dave into internet superstardom. His eventual protest song trilogy “United Breaks Guitars” has now been viewed by 150 million people worldwide, and lead to a popular 2012 book. Since then, Dave Carroll has continued to grow a successful musical and public speaking career, storytelling and reminding us how we are all connected. www.davecarrollmusic.com
JUNO Award-Winner Garrett Mason
Raised in Truro, Nova Scotia by his mother Pam and legendary “Prime Minister of Blues”
musician father Dutch Mason, JUNO award-winning troubadour Garrett Mason learned from a wide variety of musical talents, although he remains a true Electric Bluesman at heart. Whether he’s delicately finger-picking, or wailing away, this under-the-radar guitar genius sure can play.
