NV L’ACADIE BLANC, CHARDONNAY JÕST VINEYARDS

JÕST VINEYARDS, located 20 minutes from our Fox Harb’r Resort on Nova Scotia’s North Shore is one of the original wineries in our province. If Nova Scotia has a signature grape, it is L’ACADIE BLANC. Hybridized in Ontario’s Niagara region, this varietal was brought to Nova Scotia by Domaine D’ Grand Pré and named “L’Acadie”.  It is probably the grape most experimented with; oaked-unoaked, created into sparkling wine, also dried, then made into a passito-style sweet wine!  With food, the still wine version can be substituted for Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay. This non-vintage creation has shimmering, golden hues and delivers AROMAS of fresh peach, barley candy and a little bit funky ripe apple. On the PALATE, we can taste pear, herbs, a hint of salinity and a bit of pepper, especially with food. The apple and barley candy follow through from the nose. The mouthfeel has medium weight, crisp acidity, is off dry with a fresh and cleansing FINISH. This is a great sipping wine and is versatile with FOOD; lovely with snacks, munchies or appetizers. If your dinner swims or flies, this is a great pairing! This L’Acadie Chardonnay is unoaked and therefore great paired with oily fish like salmon, trout or arctic char because there are practically no tannins (tannin in wine comes from oak barrels and prolonged skin contact during fermentation). You can get this affordable NV Jõst, L’Acadie Chardonnay from the winery and is readily available around the province of Nova Scotia.
